Valeria’s latest CD “Volver A Ti” released in 2013 and produced by Carlomagno Araya. Featuring an extraordinary line up of world renowned Jazz artist such as Dave Sammuels, Diego Urcola, Federico Britos, and Néstor Torres among other, was pre-nominated for the Latin Grammys in three categories including Best New Artist.
Born in Quito, Ecuador of Cuban mother and Ecuadorian father, Valeria started working as a professional musician singing in different club bands and recording jingles at the age of fifteen . After graduating from high school she decided to relocate to Miami to pursue her life's passion; music.
Valeria began her professional musical studies at Miami Dade College where she first studied classical voice. While in college she was surrounded by many jazz musicians who greatly influenced her perception of music. She continued her studies at the world-renowned jazz program at the University of Miami where she was a scholarship recipient (including two by the Grammy-Award winning Latin artist Jon Secada). Ms. Proano, a Downbeat Student Music Award Winner, earned her Bachelor's degree in Studio Music & Jazz Vocal Performance in 2002.
Released in 2010, Valeria’s debut solo album “ Retrato en Blanco y Negro” received great reviews from critics world wide. Produced by percussionist Carlomagno Araya, this first effort attracted an A-list of players, among them flautist Nestor Torres, saxophonist Ed Calle, and trumpeter Ray Vega, leading an A-List ensemble that also features standout musicians and educators; Mike Orta and Jamie Ousley, bassist.
Valeria often performs in multiple private and corporate events worldwide. She successfully led her own groups on two European tours in the early 2000’s appearing at a special reception for the Tour de France in 2001. In 2008, Valeria concluded a series of successful concerts all over Turkey as the featured artist on a special program on the Turkish National Radio and Television Corporation.
As a musician’s vocalist who is not just a singer but also an accomplished pianist Valeria becomes an integral part of the band or easily adjusts to become a solo act, singing and accompanying herself.
Besides her performing career, Valeria has recorded jingles for television and radio, and collaborated in studio projects for other artists. For many years now, she has also taught voice, piano and music theory in various settings.
Valeria’s extraordinary versatility with various musical styles and her vast knowledge of Jazz, Brazilian Jazz, and Latin American styles, as well as her multi-lingual (Spanish, English, Portuguese, French & German) abilities make her a much in demand musician.
Valeria is currently based in Berlin, Germany and lives with her husband, daughter and their beagle.
For the past 20 years, Valeria has been performing professionally in jazz clubs, concert halls, festivals, hotels and diverse venues all over the world; Maduro Jazz Club in Tokyo, Japan, QJazz, Nardis and JC’s jazz clubs in Istanbul, Turkey, Borgata, Tropicana and Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, Xian in Beijing, China, as well as various halls & clubs in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Holland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, New York City and Quito, just to name a few.
